Shielding against low-frequency magnetic fields
Magnetic field intensity can be reduced dramatically by installing shielding materials based on a special alloy known as mu-metal. Radiansa Consulting supplies adhesive mu-metal tiles for easy and convenient installation.
Mu-metal is a nickel-iron alloy (75% nickel, 15% iron, plus copper, chromium and molybdenum) that has very high magnetic permeability, and thus is able to redirect magnetic field lines away from the protected area. We supply "Magnic Shield" adhesive tiles with a mu-metal layer (0.1 mm thickness) encased between 2 layers of protective foam (EVA, thickness 3mm); an adhesive film on the lower layer allows the tiles to be permanently attached to surfaces such as walls and ceilings.
Magnic Shield tiles measure 30 x 30 cm so the shield can be easily adapted to cover the space in question without needing to cut and shape large mu-metal panels. The tiles are constructed such that the mu-metal layer on adjacent tiles overlap so avoiding gaps in the shielded wall. After installation, if necessary the tiled area can be covered with decorative wallpaper or board.
