Measurement and assesment of exposures to high-frequency electromagnetic radiation

Radiansa Consulting provide measurement services to assess exposures to microwave and radio-frequency radiation in your building.

Radiansa provides a complete evaluation of electromagnetic exposures in your building or installation, not only in the context of current local legislation and ICNIRP recommendations, but in a wider context including factors such as average exposure levels and alternative non-official exposure limits, providing helpful information and advice whilst maintaining an unbiased position on what remains a highly controversial subject.

Exposure limits for the public in most countries, where they exist, are based on the recommendations of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). While ICNIRP levels reflect the current scientific position on the subject of human exposure to electromagnetic radiation, there is still room for doubt regarding long term effects to low levels of electromagnetic radiation. Studies of the possible effects of exposures below ICNIRP levels to date have tended to focus on serious illnesses such as cancers, and results are not persuasive. Meanwhile there remains considerable anecdotal evidence regarding less severe conditions such as sleeping disorders, although this particular effect remains elusive to scientific confirmation.

An interesting example of where current ICNIRP exposure limits to electromagnetic radiation have been shown to be inadequate (in this case, low frequency electric fields) is the occurrence of the disorder known as Lipoatrophia Semicircularis, predominately in office workers (see our section on occupational health). Electric fields responsible for this condition occur at around 5 times less than ICNIRP recommendations for public exposure. Research to identify the biological mechanism responsible continues.
